When you come fishing this way, you will notice that the Venice/ Boothville/Buras/ Port Sulphur area is a mobile home and oil field community. No sandy beaches and putt-putt golf here, but the marsh is beautiful and the fishing is great.
Captain Shawn's house was built after Katrina.

If you are traveling from I-10 East or I-59 South and want to by-pass New Orleans and save time, we recommend you take the Belle Chasse/ Braithwaite ferry.
Head South on I-10 from Slidell towards New Orleans. Cross over Lake Pontchartrain. Take exit 246A-B onto I-510 South, LA-47 toward Chalmette. Continue on LA-47 ( Paris Road) for 5-6 miles. Take a left on LA-46 ( East St Bernard Hwy) continue on LA-46 about 7 miles, until intersection with LA-39 ( St Bernard Parkway) there will be a red light and Guillory's food store. Take a right on LA-39. Go for about 6.5 miles to the ferry. It costs $ 1 per vehicle. Once you cross, you will be in Belle Chasse. Take a left on HWY 23 South. Use the same way in reverse to go out.

Whether you are coming in to New Orleans from interstate 10 east or west, be sure to stay onI-10, go direction HWY 90 Business West Bank when you enter the city. Do not take the bypass ( 610 ).
Go to downtown New Orleans while staying on interstate 10. Go directly by the Superdome (will be on your left). Keep going, and go over the Mississippi River bridge. When you cross over the bridge to the west bank you will be on an elevated expressway (hwy. 90). Stay on the LEFT LANE direction 90 Business West, Gretna/ Westwago. Ignore exit #9 to the right. STAY ON THE LEFT until you pass it.The next exit will be exit #8 " Stumpf", take the second exit which will be exit #7 Lafayette street / Hwy# 23.

Take a left at the red light, go UNDER the expressway and go straight on Hwy# 23 South. There will be a Popeye store to your left. You will stay on this road all the way to Venice. There are a number of red lights while in town, along with traffic. You will come to the only tunnel on HWY 23 as you enter Plaquemines Parish. Keep going straight down Hwy.# 23 south.

The last red light you come to is the Belle Chasse Naval Reserve military base on the right ( Blue Angels jet plane on display) and a Gulf gas station and a Subway. At this point Hwy # 23 allows you to travel at 55 mph then 65 mph. Remember, 60 miles from that last red light the Boothville water tower will be on the right hand side of the road ( the ONLY ONE on the right side ).
Take a left at the second cut in the highway past the water tower. GILLE Lane is directly across from Post Office Lane on your right hand side.If you pass a business with yellow gates and yellow anchors signs ( on your left) , you went too far, turn around at next cut in the median. There are are a few trailers and usually there is an ambulance on the parking lot on the left hand side of GILLE LANE.Turn there on Gille Lane, go a few hundred yards to the levee. Take a left here on the Boothville River Road. The SEVENTH driveway on the left is my driveway (second after DENNIS LANE) there is a big sign that says “FISH ON" on posts in the driveway . There will be a pink brick house to your right . The brick house is where you will be staying in. The Fish On Venice Lodge is the only elevated building in the back (see picture on top right above). As you reach my place there is a big yard and you can park across from the porch. You can easily see my place from Hwy# 23 (behind a big green metal building) across from the water tower, but my driveway is accessible only from the River Road. Also, it is a good idea to call me after you pass through the only tunnel or from the military base up in Belle Chasse, because that lets me know you are an hour away. Also, the speed limit in Port Sulphur gets down to 45 mph. You best not go over 50 mph. or you might get pulled over by the Law (Plaquemines Parish Sheriff). If you have any problem you are welcome to call me anytime. If you are coming in late (after 9PM) we will leave the lights on for you at the brick house so you can come in.
